Fighting Cancer with UICC

Cancer is considered a disease that gave a death sentence to the sufferer. This is natural because the majority of cancer patients are usually fatal. Moreover, for some people who have only heard about this disease through television, movies, or books. Some authors story which takes the theme of this cancer will generally depict figures who suffer from this cancer will end with death although it has been through the process of treatment by a cancer specialist. In fact, actually not all cancer patients it is definitely going to die because many cancer patients who survived after going through various treatment processes.

To educate the public about cancer, cancer specialists world formed the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) in 1933 so there is no misunderstanding about this disease. UICC, as the world of cancer prevention organization, supervised by WHO and has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. UICC also has strong alliances with the International Agency for Research on Cancer, and the Programme of action for Cancer Therapy. Other organizations can also join the UICC to provide volunteers, cancer experts and advocates who will then help spread awareness about cancer in their respective regions, also contributed to the work programs UICC.

As an international organization, UICC has several programs to accomplish its missions. World Cancer Congress, held every two years is held as a place for discussion about cancer, and also to the members and partners to share information and learn from each other. At the governmental level, have UICC World Cancer Leader's Summit each year, where members of the UICC which are in the health ministry gather. To increase public awareness of cancer held UICC World Cancer Day, held each February 4 each year. The main purpose of World Cancer Day is to reduce cases and deaths due to cancer in 2020.

Although the UICC already struggling to raise awareness about cancer, if there is no participation of people, of course, will be in vain. Therefore, it is important for the public can at least recognize what cancer and its symptoms. So it can quickly check to see a doctor if they or someone close show symptoms of cancer. With the increasing awareness of cancer, great expectations 2020 objectives will be achieved.
